Tootsie's Reading
Challenge
Did you
know where the best kept secrets are hidden? Inside a book!
Pick one up and go on an adventure; solve a problem; or learn
something new!
The Tootsie Reading Challenge was established to foster
a love of reading by rewarding children for reading and giving
them an early success. This in school program uses fun and
laughter to inspire children to pick up a book and read thereby
strengthening their reading levels. We target 2nd grade children
who have been taught the basics of reading but have not yet
established independent reading habits. Children begin taking
FCAT in their 3rd grade year. It is important that children
in 2nd grade are primed and ready and the more children read,
the better readers they become. The Tootsie Reading Challenge
is brought to schools by private sponsors, business partnerships,
community organizations, PTA/PTOs and grants.
